Do you remember the demonstration days or the time when SBI made it possible for everyone one to open a zero balance account under our beloved Prime Ministers Jan Dhan Yojna? If you do we know the plight of the bank employees during these times, while we the customers of these banking institutions suffered waiting in long ques to withdraw our money, the bank employees endured the hardships of extended work hours and customer anger. Before this, the bank employees were burdened and were rigorously working towards recovering bad loans before the surprise announcement of the demonetisation drive. In fact of the 100 or more unfortunate citizens who lost their lives during this barbaric political stunt in the name of pseudo-nationalism, the majority were Bank Employees! That being said despite their extra effort and forced sacrifice during this tumultuous time, more the 50% of the bank employees were not compensated for their extra effort.
Now despite all of the above In the wage negotiation meeting held on May 5, IBA made a proposition to offer two per cent hike in the wage bill cost as on March 31, 2017. It also maintained that the negotiations on officers demands would be restricted up to scale III officers only. Is this fair? If you ask me id say absolutely not.
